In June 2010, the mobilization against the G20 summit in Toronto resulted in the largest mass arrest in Canadian history. A $1.6 billion security operation provided the infrastructure and personnel to cage over 1100 people in order to defend a meeting of the bureaucrats from the richest capitalist economies. As a result of organizing against the summit, 17 people were preventatively arrested on charges of ‘conspiracy’ for which six were sentenced to prison terms. Others have been locked up for actions in the streets, which included attacks on police and corporate property.
